A Park Hills man and a Leadwood teenage girl were killed April 2 in a wrong-way accident on Hwy. 8 east of Dayne Lane in St. Francois County. A Fenton man also was seriously injured in the crash, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.
At 9:45 a.m., Eric L. McCarty, 43, of Fenton allegedly was driving a 2005 Mazda Tribute west in the eastbound lanes of the highway, and the front of the SUV struck an eastbound 2005 Chevrolet Cavalier head-on, the report said.
The 17-year-old girl was driving the Cavalier, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
A passenger in the Tribute – Damian A. Nino, 57, of Park Hills – was pronounced dead at the scene, too, according to the report.
McCarty was seriously injured and taken by helicopter to Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis.
No information about his condition was available.
The 17-year-old was not wearing a seat belt, and McCarty and Nino were wearing them, the patrol reported.
Both vehicles were totaled, the report said.
