A Hillsboro man was seriously hurt Sunday afternoon (July 25) when he was riding in a utility vehicle that crashed at Hwy. Z and Victory Drive near Horine. An Arizona woman also was hurt in the wreck, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At 8:19 p.m., Malay R. Patel, 27, of Strongsville, Ohio, was driving the 2016 Polaris Ranger 570 UTV around a curve and started to lose control before overcorrecting, which caused the vehicle to skid and run off the left side of the road, where it overturned, the report said.

No injuries were reported for Patel, but two passengers in the UTV were hurt, including Baldevbhai S. Patel, 70, of Hillsboro, who was seriously injured and taken by Arch Survival Flight helicopter to St. Louis University Hospital, and Lilaben J. Patel, 64, of Phoenix, who was moderately injured and taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to St. Louis University Hospital.

It is unknown if Malay Patel was using a safety device, but neither of the other two Patels was using any, the patrol reported.

The UTV was extensively damaged, the report said.
