A tractor-trailer headed west on I-44 near Antire Road in the Eureka area jackknifed and spilled a load of berries early Sunday (Feb. 10) morning, causing a traffic backup, said public information officer Scott Barthelmass of the Eureka Fire Protection District.
There were no injuries, he said.
Eureka Fire got a call at 5:14 a.m. about the accident, and because of icy road conditions, it took 17 minutes to arrive on the scene, Barthelmass said.
The tractor-trailer was carrying strawberries and other types of berries, Barthelmass said.
Eureka Fire stayed on the scene for five hours, cleaning up a small fuel spill from the truck and directing traffic, Barthelmass said.
