tire blowout

A man and woman, both of Barnhart, were hurt Sunday morning (Sept. 2) when the car they were in was struck on I-55 at Hwy. M in Barnhart by another vehicle after it had a blowout, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reported.

At about 11:30 a.m., Paige A. Nash, 19, of Arnold was driving a 2012 Hyundai Elantra north on the interstate and lost control of the car when it had a blowout, causing the car to veer to the right and strike the rear of a northbound 2005 Lexus, the report said.

After the collision, the Elantra ran off the left side of the road and struck a median barrier, according to the report.

Dana S. Stetina, 52, of Barnhart was driving the Lexus. She had minor injuries, and a passenger in the Lexus – Jonathan A. Stetina, 52, of Barnhart – was moderately injured, the report said.

The two were taken by Joachim-Plattin Ambulance to St. Anthony’s Medical Center in south St. Louis County, where they were treated and released, a hospital spokesman said.

No injuries were reported for Nash.

All those involved in the accident were wearing seat belts, the patrol reported.

The Elantra was extensively damaged, and the Lexus was moderately damaged, the report said.
