From left, Colin, Tracey and Scott Ashwell stand at an elevation of 12,441 feet at the Philmont Scout Ranch near Cimarron, N.M., Scott said. “We had a total of 10 scouts and adults from Troop 722 in High Ridge and two scouts from Troop 553 in House Springs,” Scott said. “Our crew went on a nine-day trek at Philmont Scout Ranch. We hiked over eight miles that day to crest Mount Baldy. In total, we hiked about 80 miles through the beautiful Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico.”

Angie Sutton, 52, of De Soto sent a picture that took some effort to capture. “In early September 2025, we began a journey that we had done 21 years earlier in 2004 to Supai, Ariz.,” Angie said. “You can only get to this location by hiking, riding a horse or by taking a helicopter.” Supai is just outside of the Grand Canyon and home to the Havasupai Tribe. Angie said she hiked more than 45 miles during the trip and saw five waterfalls. “The first day, we hiked 10 miles through the hot canyon, and we set our eyes on our first fall—Havasu Falls. The water was cold and refreshing to our aching muscles. The water majestically rolled from the top and crashed 100 feet down at the bottom. Its beauty was beyond what we could have imagined. It took your breath away for a moment and showed the beauty that God has created if we seek to see it.”

As soon as the sun started to clear the mountain, the entire valley lit up like someone had plugged the cacti in. They went from dark to this beautiful glow that seemed to go on forever. This picture was the one that captured the event the best, and I'm just grateful to be there and witness the beauty of nature. Totally worth the early alarm.”
