Cindy Psaris Foster of Arnold sent a photo from 1930 of her mother, Mary Kallis Psaris, in a traditional Greek costume celebrating Orthodox Easter. “Her parents came from Greece four years earlier and settled in Racine, Wis., where she was born,” Cindy said. “In 1948, her father arranged for her to meet a young man from St. Louis. They married, had nine children and celebrated 55 years of marriage together.”

Thomas Murphey, 73, of Arnold is 5 in this photo taken in April 1958 near Penrose Park in north St. Louis. “This was taken just after I was able to walk without assistance or using a cane. I had surgery to correct my bowed legs,” Thomas said. “I was so happy to be able walk out to the car by myself and to be able run and play with my siblings and friends.” His father, James W. Murphey, is behind the wheel, and his mother, Rosemarie Murphey, took the picture.
Kathryn Crow of Hillsboro sent a picture taken in November 1918 of her husband’s great-aunt, Sadie Acklin. “It was Armistice Day,” Kathryn said. “World War I had ended, and jubilation touched the entire United States. Young, spirited Sadie Acklin reveled with the crowds in the streets of Cushing, Okla. Sadie excitedly dropped into a local photographer’s studio where this photo was taken to immortalize the excitement of the day.” Sadie and her sister, Ruby Acklin Crow, were buried in De Soto City Cemetery. Both of their families have roots in
De Soto, Kathryn said.
John T. I. Parker of High Ridge sent a picture of his father, John P. Parker in Singapore. He said the photo likely was taken between 1938 and 1942 after escaping a concentration camp.

Parker, during World War II. “The primary American Air Force base in the Shanghai area was Jiangwan Airfield (Kiangwan), which was utilized by the U.S. Army Air Forces between 1942 and 1945,” John said. “This (aircraft) is a World War II U.S. Army Air Forces twin-engine transport, a Douglas C-47 Skytrain (military version of the Douglas DC-3).”

She had forgot Grandma did not have electric, and the old ice boxes would not keep them from melting, so we had a big treat that day.”

The pair stand in front of a yellow 1949 Buick Roadmaster convertible with a red interior. Harold said that he loved the car, and his father would let him drive it. His mother, Lorrain, took the photo at Riverview Park in Hannibal.

Nancy Nicholson Wood of De Soto sent a picture of her great-great-aunt, Nancy (Bryan) Yount (1866-1955), taken in about 1896. “I have always loved this picture of ‘Aunt Nan.’ The picture shows the beautiful dress I wish I had as a keepsake and the parasol. She looks so ‘aristocratic,’ but also beautiful.” Nicholson Wood said. “I visited her when I was 6 or 7 years old in a care center. She had a sweet voice; she was bed-bound then. Some people say, ‘I wished my parents would have named me something different,’ but I always loved being her namesake.” Yount married William H. Yount, a Methodist minister who was the paternal uncle of her niece, Hallie Yount Ballard. Hallie was also Nicholson Wood’s grandmother.
