A sweet place to live: Former Fenton couple love their new home at Friendship Village
Bob and Denny Bram say they’re thrilled they moved into an independent living apartment at Friendship Village in Sunset Hills.
Friendship Village, which has a second campus in Chesterfield, also provides assisted living care, memory care, skilled nursing care, rehabilitation services and home services.
The Brams moved from their Fenton home to the Sunset Hills campus in April and have found the community lives up to its name.
“The staff is friendly and the residents go out of their way to invite us to participate,” said Denny, 72.
Bob, 73, said he and Denny began looking at independent living facilities about three years ago.
“We looked at eight places before choosing Friendship Village,” he said.
“We were particularly impressed by the fact if one of us becomes ill enough to need the assisted living or memory or skilled care, one could move there, while the other stays in the apartment, and the fee remains the same,” Denny said. “My mother was in skilled nursing, and we were very aware how expensive the monthly fees are.”
Bob agreed.
“If our times comes when we need (assisted living), we didn’t want to put that burden on our kids.”
Both the Brams said they feel safe at Friendship Village, despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
“They have protocols here to keep us safe,” Denny said. “We have had no incidents of COVID among the independent living, at all.”
Bob said he likes all the amenities offered, like the gym, pool and hot tub, which were closed for a while because of the pandemic but have reopened with social distancing and other precautionary measures.
“We appreciate the effort of the staff to make things fun, entertaining and engaging for us, even through COVID,” Denny said. “We’re better off here. As you age, your health can decline, especially if you’re not active.
“It’s easy to be active here, and they pay attention to your spiritual life as well. It’s a great package deal for us.”
