Mild weather and sunny skies contributed to a successful winter cleanup around Arnold City Park on March 7, said Arnold Stream Team 211 co-chair Brian Waldrop.
“The weather could have not been any better,” he said.
Nearly 70 volunteers showed up, Waldrop said, to remove trash, tires and other debris from along trails at Arnold City Park, underneath the Jeffco Boulevard bridge that runs over the Meramec River and along the Little Muddy Creek near C Street and Aspen Lane off Starling Airport Road.
He said the volunteers collected 53 tires, along with lots of metal and other trash.
Volunteers also found a bunch of old stuffed animals, which they had some fun with, Waldrop said.
“A game we’ve been playing for years is if we find a stuffed animal or baby doll, we attach it to a volunteer’s vehicle, so we found a whole chest of stuffed animals and put them on a bunch of vehicles. We even put one on one of the city trucks,” Waldrop said. “That was fun.”
The city of Arnold donated the use of two trucks and two operators for the cleanup.
Arnold Stream 211 will hold its annual summer cleanup in August.
