The Arnold Food Pantry’s Thrift Store, 2024 Key West Drive, will hold a grand re-opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22. The thrift store recently was renovated, following a two-month closure and re-opened on Aug. 30.
A ribbon-cutting will be held at 10 a.m., and other activities will be held on Saturday to celebrate the recent improvements at the thrift store.
The theme for the celebration is the St. Louis World’s Fair Revisited, and foods reportedly served at the 1904 World’s Fair will be handed out at the event, like hot dogs, ice cream, lemonade and iced tea. Chips and popcorn also will be served, and all the food is free.
A balloon artist will be on hand, and face painting for children will be offered. Raffles and giveaways will be included.
The thrift store got a new furnace and air-conditioning unit, as well as new shelving, clothing racks and other fixtures. New flooring and energy-efficient LED lighting were installed, and the store was painted.
“The store looks great,” said Phil Amato, president of the Food Pantry board.
Thee improvements at the store were completed after the Food Pantry was renovated.
Much of the materials and labor for the renovations was donated. Volunteers also completed a lot of the work, Amato said.
