Man accused of sexually abusing girl in Jefferson County

Edward William Svoboda Jr., 41, of Ballwin has been accused of sexually abusing a girl who was younger than 12 on multiple occasions in 2002. The alleged abuse occurred over a seven-month period at a Jefferson County home, according to court papers.

Svoboda has been charged with first-degree statutory rape and first-degree statutory sodomy, both felonies. He was booked on April 1 at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, and as of April 2, he was being held on a $25,000 bond, court and jail records show.

According to the case’s probable-cause statement, the alleged abuse occurred between June and December 2002. Svoboda allegedly abused the girl approximately three times per week.

Svoboda allegedly threatened to kill the girl if she told anyone, the report said.
