Two men were seriously injured in a two-vehicle traffic accident Monday (Sept. 28) on Hwy. B south of Hwy. EE near Morse Mill.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that Dennis Vancit, 23, of Dittmer was driving a 2001 Toyota Tacoma north on Hwy. B at 4:35 p.m. and had slowed to make a left turn onto Hwy. EE, but failed to notice vehicles stopped ahead of him in time. In an attempt to slow the Toyota, Vancit’s vehicle went into a skid and crossed the center line, where it struck the front of a southbound 2005 Chevrolet Suburban driven by Hiram Stahl, 70, of Hillsboro.

Both drivers sustained serious injuries. Vancit was taken by Valle Ambulance and Stahl by North Jefferson County Ambulance to Mercy Hospital South in south St. Louis County, the report said.

Stahl was listed in good condition as of midday on Friday (Oct. 2), a hospital spokesman said. He said he had no information on Vancit.

Both were wearing seat belts, the report said. Both vehicles were totaled.
