Jefferson College officials have extended the closure of its buildings through May 15 because of the coronavirus pandemic, and spring classes will continue to be taught online.

In addition, the college plans to hold its summer classes online, officials have announced.

While most students are learning online now, some classes, like those that include lab work, aren’t conducive to online instruction and those students’ instructors are informing them about alternative learning opportunities.

Due to the uncertain duration of the pandemic, the college is moving most intersession and summer courses online and will waive the corresponding online fee for these classes.

Some of those courses, like those that include labs, require face-to-face instruction, so some in-person instruction may be possible with recommended safety precautions. Maximum enrollment in these courses has been reduced to allow physical distancing.

Depending on how the pandemic continues, the closure of college buildings could be extended beyond May 15, officials reported.

However, students are encouraged to enroll for the summer and fall classes now. In the event courses must be offered online or rescheduled, students may select other courses or contact Enrollment Services for assistance via email at advisor@jeffco.edu.

The format for fall classes is unchanged for now, and if that changes, students will be notified, the college reported.
