Eureka High School guidance counselor Sandy Kearney died today (April 2) of complications from the COVID-19 coronavirus, the Rockwood School District announced.

District spokesman Alex Fees said he did not know Kearney’s age.

“Sandy will be missed terribly,” said Superintendent Mark Miles in a letter to district staff, which was shared with media outlets. “Please keep Sandy’s family and friends in your thoughts and prayers.”

The district announced on March 29 that two staff members had tested positive for coronavirus. At that time, the district said one of the staff members worked at Eureka High and the other at Crestview Middle School in Ballwin. Neither of those staff members had been on the school campus since March 12, the district reported.

Kearney’s daughter is a librarian at Crestview Middle School, and her sister is a counselor at Marquette High School, the school district reported, although it did not name Kearney’s daughter or sister.

Kearney had worked for the district since the 1980s and became a counselor at Eureka High in 1993, according to the district.
