The Byrnes Mill Recycling Center will close starting Tuesday (March 24) because of the coronavirus pandemic. It will be closed until further notice.
“As this is a non-essential service, the city made the decision to take a proactive approach in keeping its employees and community members safe and healthy by doing all it can to limit interactions and promote social distancing,” the city announced on its website.
The Recycling Center, 4197 Lower Byrnes Mill Road, is normally open 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday to Saturday.
The Byrnes Mill City Hall lobby also is closed to the public. However, city employees are still reachable by phone and email, according to the city website.
Early last week Byrnes Mill announced it had canceled all public meetings planned at City Hall, including Municipal Court sessions, until further notice.
City Administrator Debbie LaVenture said the Board of Alderpersons meeting planned for March 18 was canceled. She also said court sessions that had been planned for March 17 and March 24 will be rescheduled sometime in May.
She said the cancellation is to protect city staff and residents from the spread of the coronavirus.
LaVenture said court payments are still due and should be mailed or paid online. She said anyone with court questions may call the court administrator at 636-677-7727, ext. 223.
