1 bag caramels

5 tablespoons cream

3/4 cup butter, melted

1 cup brown sugar

1 cup quick-cook oatmeal

1 cup flour

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

1 teaspoon salt

2 cups milk chocolate chips

1-1/4 cups pecans, chopped (optional, but better with them!)

Whipped Cream

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Melt caramels and cream in double-boiler or microwave; cool slightly and set aside. Combine butter, sugar, oatmeal, flour and salt; mix until crumbly. Press half of mixture in a 9-by-13 pan; bake for 5 minutes. Remove from oven; sprinkle with chips and nuts, then cover with caramel mixture. Sprinkle with remaining crumbs.  Bake for 15-20 minutes. DO NOT OVERBAKE. Cut when warm and serve with a dollop of whipped cream.
