Work to enlarge and line sewer mains in a section of Arnold recently was finished, Missouri American Water announced.
The Little Muddy Interceptor project was completed in the area behind Shady Court sloping toward the Meramec River behind Manufactures Drive, the company said in a written statement.
The project cost $2.7 million, Missouri American Water said.
“When we purchased the Arnold sewer system in 2015, one of the primary challenges was that many of the sewer mains were too small for a growing city,” company president Debbie Dewey said in the statement. “Over the past several years we have fulfilled our promise of investing $5 million to improve the system so it can better serve area customers.”
Arnold netted about $9.2 million after selling the sewer system to Missouri American Water for $13.2 million.
The city has used that money on a number of projects, with the first major expenditure in 2015, when it paid $3,920,361 to pay off the debt from buying the golf course the city recently closed and converted into a hiking and biking park.
Missouri American Water said it has other projects under way in Arnold, including manhole lining, minor inflow and infiltration work, and ongoing maintenance, Missouri American Water said.
