Klint Oldham, left, receives the Missouri Amvet of the Year award for 2020 from Amvets state commander Doug Johnson.
Klint Oldham says his service in the Navy led to a commitment to serve fellow veterans through the Amvets organization.
Oldham, 54, of Pevely served in the Navy’s Seabees from 1986 through 1988. He joined the Twin Cities Amvets Post 171 organization in 1998. He has served several offices in the post, including commander.
In October 2020, the Twin Cities Amvets Post 171 gained several honors from the Missouri Amvets State organization.
Oldham was named the Amvet of the Year and fellow Post 171 member Cecil Branson of Festus received the state’s Community Service Award for 2020. Post 171 earned the Outstanding Post Award; Hospital Award (for work supporting hospitalized veterans); Youth Activities Award (for work in support of area youth); and newsletter award. In addition, Post 171 placed second for the Americanism Award (for work supporting Americanism) and second in the Community Service Award as a post category.
Oldham said he is appreciative of his recognition as Amvet of the Year.
“My parents raised me not to go after accolades,” Oldham said. “You just keep doing your job and if you get a pat on the back, you just keep on going.”
Oldham plans to continue his work with the Amvets organization.
“It’s very fulfilling to be able to help other veterans and their families,” he said. “I’d like to give a tip of my hat to my wife, Joan, for supporting all that we do.”
