Customers help Savannah’s weather pandemic storm
Rene Eder, owner of Savannah’s Restaurant and Bar, 6770 Mall Drive, in Cedar Hill said it was tough when indoor dining was not allowed this spring because of the pandemic, but her loyal customers kept her in business.
“I have to say the community really supported us. We had our faithful, loyal customers who came (for carryout) two or three times a week,” she said. “Our regulars kept us going. We definitely appreciated them.”
Still, with only carryout customers from March 20 through May 20, business was down, said Eder, who lives in High Ridge.
During the shutdown, she had to reduce her staff, but once the restaurant reopened, almost all her previous employees returned, and she’s now back to 25 employees.
Eder said business is almost back to normal.
“We had a great grand reopening,” she said. “We still have a few customers we have not seen due to health reasons, and I totally understand. We can’t complain. We’re happy.”
The restaurant opened in January 2017 and offers a large menu.
“We’re a family restaurant with a bar, and we offer everything from hamburgers to ribeye steaks to scallops.”
Eder said almost all the food is fresh and made to order.
“None of the meat is frozen, and we have our own sauces and dressing we make from scratch,” she said.
The restaurant has regular specials, like prime rib on Fridays and fried chicken on Sundays. It also offers music and karaoke on the weekends.
The restaurant has seating for about 80, and the bar has seating for about 80 more.
“And, we’re getting ready to put a patio in to seat about 60,” Eder said.
She said the restaurant takes extra steps to disinfect surfaces, like seating, menus and doorknobs, throughout the day.
