Jefferson sophomore Colby Ott rushes for an 11-yard touchdown as teammate Brandon Floyd blocks Herculaneum's Cole Myers during Friday night's I-55 Conference game.

The rain finally showed up in Jefferson County on Friday night right after kickoff of several area prep football games.

It wasn’t the much-anticipated rain that forced the postponement of several games. It was the repeated flashes of lightning that emptied stands and sent fans scurrying for cover.

Seconds after Andrew Graves rushed for a 31-yard touchdown to give Jefferson a 13-0 lead at Herculaneum, officials postponed the game due to lightning. It will resume at 3 p.m. Sunday with 6:59 to play in the first quarter and the Blue Jays leading 13-0. The first play will be an extra-point attempt following Graves’ score.

Herculaneum activities director Jon Roop sent out an email Friday night stating since sales of tickets were taken Friday, there will be no charge to enter Sunday’s restart and that concessions will be available. Roop is requesting volunteers to be on the chain gang.

The much-anticipated real home opener at the newly renovated Festus stadium will have to wait again after the Tigers’ game against North County was postponed to Monday at 6 p.m. Unlike the Blue Jays and Blackcats I-55 Conference game, the Tigers never got started against the Raiders.

At St. Pius X, the Lancers led Grandview 14-0 in the second quarter when their conference game was stopped. St. Pius and the Eagles will continue play Monday at 6 p.m.

Hillsboro’s home game against unbeaten Farmington has been rescheduled for Saturday at 7 p.m.

Northwest will try to keep its undefeated record intact against Riverview Gardens on Saturday at 1 p.m. The non-conference game was originally scheduled at Riverview.
