Junior guard Amelia Chapman scored 16 points, and the Fox girls basketball team used a stifling defense and dominant rebounding to eke out a 41-39 win at Windsor on Jan. 8.

The victory put the Warriors at .500 on the season (5-5), briefly, before they dropped a 49-38 decision at Lindbergh the following night.

In addition to her team-high points, Chapman also grabbed 10 of the 37 total boards she and her teammates collected against the Owls. Seven of hers came on the defensive end, while Minea Dervisevic also yanked down 10 caroms, with six of those coming on the offensive side.

“They did a really good job at that,” Windsor head coach Kim Schmidt said of the Warriors’ rebounding. “It wasn’t their shooting that killed us, but we’re not great at scoring, so we have to eliminate other aspects. We knocked down some shots late but we still need to work on the little things.”

Fox head coach Matt Weber said there was little to separate the two teams in the game.

“Hats off to Windsor, because they pretty much matched us basket for basket the whole game,” he said. “We didn’t shoot well at all (17 of 68) so it was very important to fight for offensive rebounds.”

That was never more evident than in the second quarter. With Windsor leading 25-23, a missed Fox shot resulted in no less than four offensive rebounds, with Dervisevic tying the game on the fourth. The Owls eventually pulled ahead 36-32 on a deep 3-pointer by freshman Reagan Daly, before Chap
