Bethany Canada

De Soto's Bethany Canada watches the flight of her fly ball in a 2013 game. Canada, who finished her Dragon career with 31 home runs in 420 plate appearances, recently signed a letter of intent to continue her softball career at Wichita State University.

Pitcher Courtney Krodinger, her twin sister (and shortstop) Brittney Krodinger and third baseman Bethany Canada, all De Soto seniors, were among six players from Jefferson County selected for the 2014 all-state softball teams.

Courtney Krodinger and Canada landed on the first team while Brittney Krodinger earned second-team honors in the selections made by the Missouri High School Fastpitch Coaches Association. The Dragon trio helped lead De Soto to the Class 3 state championship last month. This is Canada’s fourth time earning all-state honors after making the second team as a freshman in 2011 and moving up to the first team in each of the past three seasons. Courtney Krodinger is a three-time all-state player (second team 2011 and first team 2013) while Brittney Krodinger made first-team last year.

Two Windsor players who helped lead the Owls to the Jefferson County Activities Association championship, the second in school history, also earned all-state notice. Senior center fielder Kristin Schmutzler made the first team while junior second baseman Madison Harris was chosen for the second team.

St. Pius X senior Kelley Conway, a first baseman, was selected for the first-team infield in Class 2. She was one of the leading hitters on a Lancer squad that won the Class 2 District 2 title.
