The Jefferson College softball team swept a doubleheader from St. Charles Community College, 9-1 and 7-5, Thursday (March 24) at Hillsboro, extending the team’s winning streak to 11 games going back to March 12.

The Vikings won the opener in five innings behind solid pitching by freshman Nikki Peters, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out one to earn her seventh win in eight decisions this spring. She got robust offensive support from the first four hitters in the Viking lineup – Libby Marko, Taylor Dames, Shelby Clark and Alex Linck – who combined for nine hits in 11 at-bats. Linck smashed a two-run homer, her ninth of the season.

In the nightcap, Marko and Dames each belted a home run and Clark pitched five relief innings for the victory, upping her season log to 10-4. Marko also drove in three runs as Jefferson improved to 20-6. Two days earlier, the Vikings took two from conference and regional foe Three Rivers Community College, 6-1 and 6-3.

Jefferson returns to action Tuesday, March 29, with a doubleheader at East Central College in Union. They return home Thursday, March 31 to host Mineral Area College in a 2 p.m. double-bill.
