The St. Pius X girls and boys basketball teams swept host Crystal City in a varsity JCAA doubleheader Friday night.

The Lancer girls entered their conference game against the Hornets on a three-game winning streak. Paced by point guard Jordanne Mickley, the Lancers beat the Hornets 52-39. The Lancers improved to 10-7 overall and 2-1 in the JCAA. The Hornets fell to 5-11 and 0-2.

The St. Pius boys snapped a three-game losing streak with a 56-40 win over Crystal. Crystal center Brady DeGeare scored all of the Hornets’ field goals in the first half, but Lancers Luke Klahs and Zach Morlock were ready and waiting for DeGeare in the paint in the second half.

The Lancers improved to 5-13, while the Hornets dropped to 4-15.

On the ice

In a Mid-States Club Hockey Association game Friday night in Fenton, Eureka beat Northwest 5-2.

Northwest goaltender Clayton Davis stopped 33 of 35 shots through two periods as the Wildcats (9-8-2) led the Lions (2-12-5) just 2-1. But the Wildcats scored three goals in a six-minute span in the third to pull away.

Jacob Gabel scored two goals for Eureka which caps its regular-season schedule Saturday against Lafayette. The Lions finish the regular season Saturday against Seckman. The Wildcats could be headed to the Wickenheiser Cup, while the Lions could play in the Founder s Cup.
