St. Pius X jumped on Grandview for a 20-6 halftime lead and went on to a 41-12 victory in one of three local high school games played Monday night (Sept. 8). The games were postponed from Friday due to thunderstorms across the area.
The Lancers got more than 250 yards rushing from Lance Ervin and Tryson Thornton in winning the annual Black and Blue Bash rivalry game. Ervin and Thornton each scored a touchdown and Anthony Hoog ran for two scores while gaining 69 yards on the ground. The Lancers improved to 2-1 while Grandview slipped to 1-2.
Crystal City hosted Principia and smashed the winless Panthers 33-13 behind two rushing touchdowns by Donavin Williams and two TD passes from quarterback Logan Grove to Zach Cheaney. It was Crystal’s second win in a row, matching the Hornets’ win total from last year.
At Windsor, Festus flattened the Owls 47-6 with three touchdowns by Jordan Wilkes, (two rushing and one on a pass from QB Andrew Hayden) and two more TDs on the ground by Jarrett Johnson. Windsor’s lone score came on a 46-yard run by Brandon Fouts in the third quarter. Festus has won two in a row after a season-opening loss to Westminster while the Owls remain winless at 0-3.
