A three-time Class 2 state qualifier and two-time medalist, Metzler, a senior, won the St. Vincent Invitational in Perryville on Sept. 4 with a personal-best time of 16:38.55 on the 3.1-mile (5K) course. That was 48 seconds faster than runner-up St. Vincent junior Carter Hennemann, who was 11th in the state last year; Metzler was 24th. The top 30 individuals win medals. The Class 2 state-winning time last season was 16:31.
