Two of the best guards in the Jefferson County Activities Association met at Festus on Friday night in a boys basketball game.
Festus senior Owen Horsley is third in the St. Louis area in assists per game, while De Soto senior Austin West is the only player in Jefferson County averaging 20 points per game.
West needed 14 points to reach 1,000 in his stellar career with the Dragons, but fell two points shy of the mark as Festus held on for a 48-40 victory in the JCAA large-schools game. Horsley led all scorers with 24 points as Festus improved to 9-7 overall and 2-2 in the conference.
De Soto was coming off a 70-50 conference win over Windsor and fell to 10-10 and 2-1.
