The Festus baseball team won its first-ever state championship, beating St. Francis Borgia 8-1 in the Class 5 final at Sky Bacon Stadium in Ozark on June 3. The Tigers (27-8) ran off nine straight wins to close the season, including four shutouts in a row in the playoffs. Against Borgia, the Class 4 state champions in 2019, Festus had 16 hits, all singles. It’s the second consecutive state trophy for the Tigers, who finished second in Class 5 in 2022.
