Seeded No. 1 in the Class 4 District 2 tournament at Webster Groves, the St. Pius X volleyball team swept away three opponents in straight sets culminating with a 25-13, 25-23, 25-16 win over second-seeded Rockwood Summit on Monday night.
The Lancers also beat Miller Career Academy (8) and Festus High (4) in straight sets to improve to 22-4. St. Pius is the defending Class 4 state champion and plays the District 1 champion in the state quarterfinals Saturday. West Plains and Cape Girardeau Notre Dame meet for the District 1 title tonight at 6 p.m. at Cape Girardeau Central High.
The Class 4 state final four is being held at the Civic Center in St. Joseph on Nov. 5-6. The Lancers won state titles in 2011 under head coach Karrie Hermann, 2016 (Dustin Cutts), 2017 and 2024 (Shannon Leftridge).
