Crystal City yard sale back for second year

Money-savvy shoppers looking to score a good deal should mark their calendars for a large yard sale coming to Crystal City next month.

The second citywide subdivision sale will take place in Crystal City from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11.

Jennifer Grissom, co-sponsor of the event, said last year’s inaugural event was a success that she hopes to build on this year.

She said 55 homes in Crystal City signed up last year, but 75 ended up participating. Just in the initial couple of weeks since opening registration for this year’s event, 35 people have already registered, which could be an indication that this year will be even larger, maybe even topping 100 participants, she said.

Grissom, who is a Realtor, said Realtors often sponsor subdivision yard sales, but she wanted to be a little more ambitious and include all of Crystal City, which is where she resides.

Grissom said the event will be open to homeowners, businesses and organizations to participate.

Registration for the event is free.

Grissom said registering for the event is important because those who register will be included on the event map, showing participating homes and businesses. She said being included on the event map can mean a huge difference in the amount of foot traffic the participants see at their sale.

“Last year, everyone who signed up and was put on the map had a ton of traffic to their sale,” she said.

Grissom said she intends to make the event map larger this year to increase readability.

“I want it to be really large and very clear about where every sale is going to be,” she said.

Grissom said she also intends to create an online map people can view on their phones.

Grissom said the paper maps will be distributed at Riverbend Bookstore, 521 N. Truman Blvd., in Crystal City. She said the bookstore may host some vendors in its parking lot as well during the subdivision sale.

Grisson said Crystal City Farmers Market, which is typically held on Sundays, will be participating on Saturday in the subdivision sale at its normal location in the Huxco Construction parking lot at 102 N. Truman Blvd.

Grissom said she hopes to have many other businesses sign up to participate in the citywide sale by offering special sales, such as sidewalk sales, at their businesses during the event.

Those wishing to register to have a yard sale at their home may call 314-288-7078.

Homeowners who sign up with Grissom will not need to contact the city, as is typically required for yard sales. Instead, Grissom will provide the city with a list of participants.

After the yard sales, Grissom said there will again be a “post-sale pickup for a cause.”

She said unwanted gently used children’s items can be picked up to be donated to Foster Together in Arnold, which provides items to foster families free of charge. To sign up to have those items donated after the yard sale, participants should contact Grissom.
