Jefferson junior Abi Chipps has given an oral commitment to attend Indiana State University in Terre Haute and play softball for the Sycamores. Chipps has been selected to the Class 2 all-state all three years she’s played for the Blue Jays.
Indiana State competes at the Division I level and in the Missouri Valley Conference. The Sycamores were 26-28 overall and 21-14 in the MVC in 2018.
Chipps has 110 stolen bases in three years. If she steals 12 more next fall, she’ll move into fifth place in state history. With 26 steals her senior year, Chipps would be in third place. Lamar’s Stephanie Standley (1998-2001) holds the state record with 206.
Chipps has been a first team member on the all-Jefferson County Activities Association squad three years in a row. She scored the game-winning run for the Blue Jays when they finished third in Class 2 in 2016 and has batted over .600 the last two years.
