Senior Cole Lankford on the mound for the Jefferson Blue Jays. His win Wednesday improved his season record to 3-1.

The Jefferson Blue Jays ran their record on the diamond to 9-6 overall and 3-0 in the Jefferson County Activities Association with a 9-1 victory at home over Herculaneum on Wednesday (April 23). Blue Jay starting pitcher Cole Lankford pitched a complete game, his third of the season, and allowed only two hits while striking out 11 in seven innings. He helped himself at the plate, collecting two hits in three at-bats, and also got support from Austin Graves, Ryan Johnston and Dalton Messmer, each with two hits as part of a 13-hit attack.

Also on Wednesday, St. Pius edged the visiting Potosi Trojans 7-6, scoring two runs in the bottom of the seventh to gain the Lancers’ seventh win in 10 games this spring. Tanner Martin singled to drive in the tying run to make it 6-6 and Isaac Byrd’s squeeze bunt with the bases loaded scored Alex Rarick with the winning run.
