Shy will be in eighth grade at Festus Middle School this fall. Competing with the Jefferson County Jets track club, she captured first place in her age group on June 30 at the AAU Regional Track and Field Qualifier at Lindenwood University in St. Charles in the pentathlon with 1,691 points and pole vault with a leap of 7 feet. The two wins secured Shy a spot in the Junior Olympics at Drake University in Des Moines, Iowa from July 28 to Aug. 4.
