Keshawn Elijah Box, 19, of Crystal City has been accused of trying to steal a pickup from a man who he allegedly hit multiple times and pointed a gun at outside of a Crystal City home, court documents show.
Box has been charged with vehicle hijacking, a class A felony punishable by 10 to 30 years or life in prison; and first-degree attempted robbery, a class B felony that carries a penalty of five to 15 years in prison. He was arrested on Sept. 9, and as of Sept. 11, he was being held on a $50,000 bond at the Jefferson County Jail in Hillsboro, according to court records.
Crystal City Police at about 12:55 p.m. June 2 were called to a home in the 200 block of Olive Street because of the alleged attack and attempted theft, the case’s probable-cause statement said.
Surveillance video allegedly showed Box repeatedly hit another man while they were inside a 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. The two men were then seen outside the pickup, and Box allegedly continued to hit the man, the report said.
Box is then seen getting into the pickup and driving it forward approximately 2 feet. He stopped the pickup and drove back to where it was originally parked when the other man was seen saying something through the passenger’s side window, according to the report.
Box allegedly was heard telling the other man, “I’ll go get my gun.” Box then appeared to pick up a gun that was wrapped in a jacket, the report said.
Box dropped the object that was wrapped in the jacket, and investigators said there was a metallic sound when the object hit the pavement. Investigators also said when Box retrieved the dropped item, he held it in a manner consistent with someone holding a gun, according to the report.
The report does not say if Box left the house in the pickup truck or if an officer recovered a gun.
