The 5-9, 160-pound junior stepped in at quarterback early in Herculaneum’s game against host Scott City Friday (Aug. 22) and responded with touchdown runs of 38 yards and six yards, plus a successful two-point conversion run, in a 26-22 Black Cat victory. Venable’s second touchdown with about three minutes left in the game provided the margin of victory for the Cats. He finished with 83 yards on seven carries and also had a 45-yard scoring jaunt called back on a holding penalty. Venable replaced Matt Lodike at QB when Lodike had to start as a replacement at free safety on defense. When he was asked if he’ll stay with Venable as the signal-caller for Herky’s next contest Friday at Lutheran South (1-0), head coach Dave Cook said, “It’s going to be real hard for me not to.”
