Scott, Wilma

Wilma Dot Scott, 84, of De Soto, formerly of Hillsboro, died May 18, 2017, at Hillcrest Nursing Center in De Soto. Ms. Scott was a member of First Baptist Church of Crystal City/Festus and a member of the VFW Post 3553 Ladies Auxiliary, Kaskaskia Chapter, in Chester, Ill. She loved doing crossword and jigsaw puzzles and enjoyed going to the casino. Born Dec. 14, 1932, in Crystal City, she was the daughter of the late Rudolph and Stella (Lancaster) Scott. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Welch Sr.

She is survived by a son: Clemons (Kathy) Eugene Welch of Murray, Ky.; three daughters: Cathleen Cicelia LaGarce of St. Louis, Shelby Jo (Michael) Brown of St. Clair and Cindy Ann Welch of Hillsboro; two brothers: Wayne Scott of Las Vegas and Howard (Gerry) Scott of Festus; four sisters: Alma Asbury of Chester, Ill., and Connie Williams, Linda McGowen and Barbara Frost, all of De Soto; a sister-in-law: Brenda Scott of Festus; several grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by two sons: Elbert Welch Jr. and John Monroe Welch; a son-in-law: Kenneth LaGarce; a brother: Joseph Scott; two sisters: LaVerne Thebeau and Caroline Valle; and a brother-in-law: Ray Asbury.

A graveside service was held May 22 at the Peaceful Meadows Cemetery in Hillsboro. Arrangements were under the direction of Mahn Twin City Chapel in Festus.
