Wendell Thomasson, 87, Dittmer

Wendell Thomasson, 87, of Dittmer died Aug. 9, 2022, in Dittmer. Mr. Thomasson was an over-the-road truck driver for Watling Ladder in St. Louis. He was a skilled mechanic and welder for the Northwest School District and Bill Williams Construction in Cedar Hill. He was a member of the High Ridge Elks for more than 30 years. He enjoyed the outdoors and camping and fishing. He also liked attending bluegrass festivals, traveling with his wife in their RV and spending time with family and friends. He didn't mince his words, and his nickname was grumpy, but he had an infectious smile. Born April 29, 1935, in Livia, Ky., he was the son of the late Alva Northern and Ida (Thomasson) Boone.

He is survived by his wife: Myrna Thomasson; two children: Anthony Thomasson and T. Darlene (Jonas) Allen; four grandchildren: Joshua Thiess, Andrew and Samantha Thomasson, and Lucas Allen; four great-grandchildren: Noah, Sawyer, Julien and Odin; six siblings: Linda Riley, Ronnie (Gail) Northern, Sandra Chapman, Jerry (Thomas) Northern, Roberta Baker and Judy (the late Lester) Stratton; and many other family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by five siblings: Joann (Oscar) Isabelle, Larry Northern, Yvonne Sloan, Suette Vandiver and Harlen Boone.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until a funeral service at noon, Thursday, Aug. 18, at Chapel Hill Mortuary, 6300 Hwy. 30, in Cedar Hill. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Cedar Hill. Arrangements are under the direction of Chapel Hill Mortuary in Cedar Hill.
