Virginia L. “Ginny” Carlyon, 87, of Normal died Aug 21, 2019, at Sugar Creek Alzheimer’s Special Care Center in Normal. Ms. Carlyon loved taking care of others; cooking for and entertaining others; spending time with her family and meeting new people. Born June 23, 1932, in Chicago, she was the daughter of the late Gordon Henry and Helena Elizabeth Burgmann Redfield Sr. She was preceded in death by her husband: Clark R. Carlyon, whom she married in August 1949 in Hillsboro.
She is survived by a daughter: Cathy (Geoff) Kemp of Tremont; a son: Steve (Kathy) Carlyon of Austin, Texas; five grandchildren: Katie and Kristen Carlyon, Ben (Amanda) Kemp, Jason (Erin) Kemp and Lauri (Kalman) Nagy; 11 great grandchildren: Owen, Brooklyn, Eleanor and Teddy Kemp, Colin, Keely and Donovan Kemp, and Lillian, Evalyn, Isabel and Charlotte Nagy; one brother: Gordon Redfield; and one sister: Joan Terry.
She was preceded in death by a son: Robert Carlyon.
A Celebration of Life will be from 3-6 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 25, at the Kemp 208 restaurant, 208 N. Main St., Morton, Ill. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements are under the direction of Carmody-Flynn Funeral Home, Bloomington.
