Scott, Winnie

Virgina Lee “Winnie” Scott, 90, of Wheat Ridge, Colo., formerly of Clinton, Iowa, Denver, Colo. and Brighton, Colo., died March 28, 2019, at Mountain Visa Care Center in Wheat Ridge. Mrs. Scott enjoyed yodeling, quoting poetry (especially limericks), playing piano, and entertaining others. She was known as an outspoken person and a woman of faith. Born Nov. 27, 1928, in De Soto, she was the daughter of the late Ethel Mae (Denny) Scott and Cleveland Stone.

She was preceded in death by two husbands: William Leo Cowin and Roger Turner.

She is survived by a son: K.W. (DiAnne) Cowin of Brighton; a daughter: Rhonda (Fred Reinitz) Diamond-Star of Grand Junction, Colo.; a sister: Nedra (Joe) Courtaway of De Soto; twin granddaughters: Jennifer (David) and Mandy (Shawn), both of Mt. Pleasant; a great-granddaughter: Ashley (Christian); a great-grandson: Michael; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by six siblings: Frank “Red” Scott, Neoma Wienberry, Gladys Osmundson, Myrtle Calvert, Daisy Hobson and Iva McBroom.

Visitation is at 10 a.m., followed by a funeral service at 11:30 a.m. Thursday, April 4, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto, officiated by Brother Bob Thebeau. Burial is in the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to Chapel Hill Church of the Nazarene, 10 Chapel Hill Dr., Brighton, CO 80607; or to the the Alzheimer’s Association of Colorado, 455 Sherman St., Suite 500, Denver, CO 80203. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
