Velma M. Martin, 81, of De Soto died April 8, 2022, at her home. Mrs. Martin was born Nov. 26, 1940, in Cherryville, the daughter of the late Harvey Hafley and Verda (Lewis) Hafley Renshaw. She was preceded in death by her husband: Stanley Martin.
She is survived by seven children: Debra Newkirk Clark of Orlando, Fla., Marty (Faye) Newkirk of De Soto, Linda (Tom) Brasile of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Valerie Newkirk Roderman of Victoria, Laura (Greg Meredith) Newkirk of Morse Mill, Kelly Newkirk of Victoria and Randy Newkirk of Victoria; five stepchildren: Rick Martin of Cherryville, Vicky (Charles) Taff of Springfield, Phyllis (Rick) Conway of Steelville, Carl (Debbie) Baker of St. James and Allen (Beth) Adams of Steelville; four siblings: Mona (the late Merle) Daugherty of High Ridge, Eunice Hatfield of Davisville, Barb Cook of Cherryville and Charles (the late Donna) Renshaw of Cedar Hill; 29 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was preceded in death by two sons: Marvin Newkirk Jr. and Dan Newkirk; and two grandsons: Nicholas Clark and Andrew Clark
Visitation is scheduled from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, April 13, at Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home, 220 N. Main St., in De Soto. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, April 14, at the funeral home, officiated by Brother Bob Thebeau. Burial is in the Victoria Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home.
