Vallie Joseph Gibbar, 104, of Festus died Nov. 30, 2020, at Crystal Oaks Nursing Center in Festus. Mr. Gibbar was a retired glassworker with the former Pittsburgh Plate Glass plant in Crystal City. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and a member of American Legion Post 253. Born Dec. 13, 1915, in Perryville, he was the son of the late Ruben and Mary (Pannier) Gibbar. He was preceded in death by his wife: Eva “Jean” (Fitzgerald) Gibbar.
He is survived by a sister: Ruby (the late Richard) Schweppe of Affton; and numerous nieces and nephews, including Judy (Ivan) Wallace of Imperial and Ginny (Harold) Hunt of Festus.
He was preceded in death by a brother: Francis Eugene Gibbar; and five sisters: Marie (the late Joseph) Geringer, Ella Mae (the late Joseph) Chambers, Iva (the late Gilard) Ponder, Aileen (the late Bob) Garrison and Dorothy (the late Fred) Byram.
Visitation is at 9 a.m. and a funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 7, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Burial with full military honors is in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Crystal Oaks Foundation or to Mercy Jefferson Hospice. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
