V. Jay Veltman, 55, of Hillsboro died March 23, 2020. Mr. Veltman owned a trucking and flatwork company in Springfield, Ill., and later VMix Concrete in Washington, Ill. He was the sales manager for Gibco Trucking Co. and for Landvatter Ready Mix in Kirkwood. He enjoyed playing guitar and riding his Harley, traveling throughout the U.S., and always had a smile on his face, even after the UTV accident in 2015 that left him a quadriplegic. Born Dec. 17, 1964, in Centralia, Ill., he was the son of Earline Veltman of De Soto and the late Vern Veltman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a son: Tyler Veltman of Chesterfield; a daughter: Sydney Veltman of Chesterfield; a sister: Mary Joslyn of Chatsworth, Ga.; an aunt: Beatrice Rue of Pinellas Park, Fla.; and numerous cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by a sister-in-law: Victoria McCrory.
Celebration of life will be at a later date.
