Thomas Leroy “Tom” Gregory, 82, of Lebanon died at Mt. Vernon Veteran’s Home in Mt. Vernon. Mr. Gregory graduated from Steelville High School and served four years in the U.s. Air Force, one of them in Morocco. He worked for Carter Carburetor in St. Louis, then for Chrysler until he retired. During that time, he served with the Missouri Army National Guard, traveling to several states and countries including Germany, Japan and Honduras.
After he retired, Mr. Gregory and his wife bought a small farm in Fordland and enjoyed country life, including working with his cattle. He attended the Pilgrim’s Rest Baptist Church in Ware for many years and later became a member of First Baptist Church of Strafford. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gospel music, going to church and participating in church activities and reading his Bible. Born Aug. 28, 1938, in Steelville, he was the son of the late Jesse Leroy and Lottie Irene Weber Gregory. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Anita Ruth (Garrison) Gregory, whom he married April 6, 1963 at Cherryville Baptist Church and who died in 1999; and his second wife: Audrey Jane (Barber) Gregory, whom he married June 9, 2001 in Lebanon.
He is survived by seven children: Melissa Gregory of Springfield, Edward Gregory of Lowell, Ark., Keith (Kerry) Gregory of Willard, Shawn Gregory of Hillsboro, Grant (Darnell) Gregory of Hillsboro, Matthew (Holly) Gregory of Branson and Tyler (Christy) Gregory of Hillsboro; a stepdaughter: Linda (Brandon) Teubner of Lebanon; three siblings: Lathan (Barbara) Gregory of Cherryville, Alice (Robert) Morton of Strafford and Paul (Gaylene) Gregory of Ozark; a brother-in-law: Terry (Cletta) Garrison of Steelville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; seven step-great-grandchildren; and many other friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his parents-in-law: Edward and Fayetta Garrison and Ira “Doc” and Alma Mizer; a brother: Wayne (Jessie) Gregory; three brothers-in-law: Eddie Garrison, Ronnie Garrison and Lilburn “Bud” Mizer; and a sister-in-law: Mary “Jackie” (Don) Howell.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until a funeral service at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at Hutson Funeral Home in Steelville. Burial with full military honors is in the Steelville Cemetery.
