Thomas Edward Akers, 69, of De Soto died Feb. 15, 2019, at his home. Mr. Akers was retired from Chrysler after 37 years of service. He also was a member of UAW 110 and 136. He loved spending time with his grandchildren, watching St. Louis Cardinals baseball and relaxing at the lake. Born Aug. 3, 1949, in De Soto, he was the son of the late George A. Akers Sr. and Mary Elizabeth “Betty” (King) Akers.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years: Penny (Stewart) Akers; one daughter: Autum (Eric) Jennings of St. Louis; one sister: Mary Beth (Dr. Leslie) Reed of Hillsboro; one sister-in-law: Juanita Akers of De Soto; two nephews: Sam Reed and Alan Akers; and two grandchildren: Jack Thomas Jennings and Chloe Kathleen Jennings.

He was preceded in death by one brother: George A. Akers Jr.; and his parents-in-law: Jack and Betty Stewart.

Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at Hope United Church of Christ, 6273 Eichelberger St., in St. Louis, with fellowship following the service. Burial will be at the Four Season Mausoleum at the Woodlawn Cemetery in De Soto. Memorials may be made to the Tom Akers Memorial at Hope United Church of Christ, 6273 Eichelberger St., St. Louis, 63109. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
