Terry Lynn Bates, 66, of Herculaneum died Dec. 29, 2020, at Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County. Mrs. Bates dedicated her life to her family and friends, and excelled at supporting her children, grandchildren, and friends, never missing attending a sporting event of her grandsons. She was a passionate and accomplished cook, and made it her mission to improve the lives of others, volunteering through the Amvets Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary. She was born July 3, 1954, in Crystal City, the daughter of Peggy (Horn) and Jack Voelker of Crystal City.
In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband of 45 years: Jimmy Bates, whom she married on Nov. 3, 1975; two sons: Shad (Nicole) DeBoor and Tyler (Amy) Bates; five grandchildren: Gavin and Garrett DeBoor and Hayden, Hunter and Hudson Bates; her mother-in-law: Betty Bates; a sister-in-law: Joan (Randy) Hill; a brother-in-law: Billy Bates; and her best friend: Michelle Burlage.
She was preceded in death by a brother: Michael T. Voelker Sr.; his father-in-law: Nick Bates; a sister-in-law: Jane Bates; a granddaughter: Claire Lynn DeBoor; and a nephew: Michael T. Voelker Jr.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Ladies Auxiliary of Amvets Post 42, 690 Joachim Ave., Herculaneum, 63048. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus.
