Sylvesta Rose Werner, 106, formerly of Festus died September 12, 2022, in Bethalto, Ill. Mrs. Werner had worked at the PPG Crystal City plant and Charles Klinginsmith Chiropractic in Festus, and she was a cook for St. Pius X High School in Crystal City. She was a longtime member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Crystal City, the Daughters of Isabella and the Sacred Heart Quilters.. Born July 8, 1916, in Rush Tower, she was the daughter of the late Rose E. (Bayer) and Sylvester J. Govero.
She was preceded in death by her husband: Leonard A. Werner.
She is survived by two daughters: Mary Jane (Glenn) Kiepe of Festus and Cindy (Bob) Helmkamp of Bethalto, Ill.; three sons: Sy (Judy) Werner of Neosho, Dale (Karen) Werner of Festus and Terry (Laurie) Werner of St. Louis; a sister-in-law: Billie Werner of Festus; a daughter-in-law: Linda Werner of Hobe Sound, Fla.; 20 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; and 21 great-great-grandchildren.
She also was preceded in death by a son: Kenneth J. Werner; an infant daughter: JoAnne Werner; two brothers: Willard (the late Rose) Govero and Floyd Govero; and a grandson: Lt. Kent M. Kiepe.
A visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 West Main St., in Festus. Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 17, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 555 Bailey Road, in Crystal City. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Sacred Heart Cemetery or the Ozark Food Pantry. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
