Susan Hunter Bowman, 69, of Festus, died July 20, 2019, at Avalon Memory Care in St. Louis. Mrs. Bowman was a retired teacher, mostly for the Jefferson R-7 School District. She was a graduate of Western Kentucky University. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Festus and Chapter JA of the Philanthropic Educational Organization. Born Nov. 23, 1949, she was the daughter of the late William Richard “Dick” and Mary Etta (Sparks) Hunter.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Dr. Larry Bowman.

She is survived by two children: James “Jay” (Dr. Jacquelyn) Bowman of Louisville, Ky., and Emily (Michael) Cook of Fenton; and four grandchildren: Owen and Lily Cook of Fenton and Nashville and Penelope Bowman of Louisville.

Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, July 24, at Vinyard Funeral Home, 616 W. Main St., in Festus. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, July 25, at First United Methodist Church 113 Grand Ave., in Festus, officiated by Pastor Jack King. Burial will follow at Rose Lawn Memorial Gardens in Crystal City. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Arrangements are under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
