Shirley Joan Burgan, 81, of Festus died Sept. 15, 2017, at Mercy Hospital Jefferson in Crystal City. Mrs. Burgan was a retired factory worker and a “lunch lady” at Festus Elementary School. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Festus-Crystal City and VFW Post 3777 Auxiliary. Born May 15, 1936, in Crystal City, she was the daughter of the late Elva (Seabaugh) and Elmer E. Hastings. She was preceded in death by her husband: Charles Robert Burgan.
She is survived by a son: Dennis (Annie) Burgan of Festus; a daughter-in-law: Melissa Burgan of Arcadia Valley; a sister: Gladys (the late Everett) Burgan of Mitchell, Ill.; a sister-in-law: Joyce Hastings of Crystal City; and four grandchildren: Rachel (fiance Jason Netherland) Welch, Kara (Phillip) Wells, Brooke Burgan and Nathaniel Robert Burgan.
She was preceded in death by a son: Samuel Burgan; a sister: Marie Hastings; and two brothers: William E. “Bill” (the late Betty) Hastings and Robert L. “Bob” Hastings.
A funeral service was held Sept. 19 at Vinyard Funeral Home in Festus, officiated by the Rev. Randy Casey. Burial was in the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. Arrangements were under the direction of Vinyard Funeral Home.
