Scott L. “Barney” Freeman, 55, of De Soto died Aug. 10, 2017, in Rocky Mount. Mr. Freeman was a truck driver for the Jefferson County Public Works Department and a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers Local 148. He also was a member of Landmark Missionary Baptist Church. Born Jan. 6, 1962, in Tucson, Ariz., he was the son of Shirley “Jean” (Dodd) Haderlein of De Soto and the late Earl Freeman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife: Linda (Long) Davis of De Soto; a brother: Mark (Monica) Freeman of Naples, Fla.; a sister: Nicole “Nicki” Smyers of St. Charles; two nieces: Courtney and Robin; a nephew: Dustin; and two great-grandchildren: Jaden and Jevin Pashia.
A funeral service was held Aug. 13 at Landmark Baptist Church in De Soto, officiated by Brother Wayne Gibson. Burial was in the De Soto City Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Landmark Missionary Baptist Church or to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Arrangements are under the direction of Dietrich-Mothershead Funeral Home in De Soto.
