Robert Preston Powell Sr., 62, of Joplin, formerly of Hillsboro, died Aug. 25, 2018, in Joplin. Mr. Powell was a substance abuse counselor at “The H.O.U.S.E. Inc.,” where he helped veterans and recovering addicts. He also was a U.S. Army veteran. Born Aug. 23, 1956, in St. Louis, he was the son of the late John R. Powell and Cynthia E. (Phillips) Powell-Moore.
He is survived by one son: Christopher Allen (Lucy Stringer) Powell of Hillsboro; three grandchildren: Anthony, Ashlynn and Robert D.; one sister: Debra (Larry) Steele of Dupo, Ill.; and one brother: Don (Angel) Moore of Barnett.
He was preceded in death by one son: Robert P. Powell Jr.; and one brother: John T. Powell.
Family and friends are invited to assemble at the Sylvan Springs Park at the Ordnance Shelter across from the National Cemetery at Jefferson Barracks just prior to the service and then proceed together to the cemetery.
Burial with full military honors will be at 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 21, at the cemetery. Memorials may be made to The H.O.U.S.E. Inc. Arrangements are under the direction of Robert D. Brown Funeral Home.
