Robert M. Potts Jr., 58, of St. Louis died Sept. 14, 2022, in St. Louis. Mr. Potts, who was a Catholic and a creative self-taught artist, graduated from Fox High School in 1982 and worked as a machinist most of his life. Due to physical limitations, he then switched to bartending and found a new passion in offering a sympathetic ear and making forever friendships, forming his “bar family.” He loved to talk to his family, and oftentimes struggled with saying goodbye. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, his compassion and kindness and his willingness to help anyone in need. Born January 21, 1964, in St. Louis, he was the son of Mary (Venverloh) Potts of Imperial and the late Robert M. Potts Sr.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by a daughter: Alexandrea (Jason) Wood; four siblings: Raymond (Seija) Potts, Barbie (David) Nunnery, the Rev. Rick Potts, C.Ss.R, and Beth (Craig) Thompson; two grandchildren: Riley and Scottie Walker; two nephews; Jacob (Tiffany Light) Thompson and Jeremy Thompson; and many other family members and friends. He was preceded in death by a nephew: James Thompson III.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, at Kutis Funeral Home, 5255 Lemay Ferry Road, in south St. Louis County, officiated by the Rev. Rick Potts, Mr. Potts’ older brother. Memorials may be made by doing a good deed for someone else, such as donating to a homeless shelter paying for someone's meal, donating clothes or books; donating blood, helping someone in need or just sharing a laugh with someone. Arrangements are under the direction of Kutis Funeral Home.
